As part of the IHG chain, they came under real pressure to drive through a non-union deal. This is a smaller hotel where staff appear to have a closer relationship with management. The First Star doesn’t think that this means it is significantly different. It just means that they have the good grace to feel uncomfortable about the anti-worker strategy being pursued by their chain.
Now here’s the problem with not having an authoritative, consistent and transparent green accreditation system for Australia’s luxury hotel sector. The Holiday Inn is part of the IHG hotel chain. As such it is part of the chain’s “new online sustainability system called, Green Engage, which assists IHG general mangers across 4,000 hotels to manage hotel energy, water and waste consumption more effectively.”
That’s terrific, but what does it really mean and what does it produce and who makes it work and how does it impact on staff and community? This is not just an issue for the IHG chain; it is why we need a national accreditation system so customers can compare apples with apples.
