At last some good news to report! The First Star understands Hilton Adelaide is holding out against pressure from Hilton International to deny their workers important rights at work. We think that is really a position to be applauded. They’re still a long way from achieving The First Star because they’re not actually actively addressing worker concerns – yet.
But it does look like the Hilton Adelaide is more focussed on “green initiatives” than its counterparts. Its sustainability fact sheet is worth checking out.
Aside, the Brassiere at the Hilton Adelaide has ‘celebrity chef’ Simon Bryant as its executive chef (he stars in the ABC series “The Cook and the Chef”). He was involved in the SA Department of Environment and Heritage environmental debate at its “stirring the possum” community debates – which are incidentally held in at the Hilton Adelaide.
He even recorded as message for the event which can be found here.
The Brassiere’s website also listed the following information as to why it is different from other employers:
What makes The Brassiere different from other employers?
- Closed for lunch Saturday and Sundays
- Located in the central CBD with easy access to transport & amenities
- We look after you with great staff meals
- Flexible and respectful roster
- Company discounts when dining in our restaurants
- Weekly direct deposit banking of your pay
- Very experienced team led by celebrity chef, Simon Bryant
- We are a fun happy team!
This is one hotel that appears to be moving in the right direction.
